OBJECTIVES

Exploring fishers’ knowledge for integration in the monitoring, management, sustainable use and protection of pelagic biodiversity

METHODOLOGIES

Our comprehensive approach is built on a thorough literature review, complemented by data from questionnaires, interviews, focus group discussions, and multi-stakeholder workshops, with an additional focus on analyzing fishing log-books.

EXPECTED OUTPUT

  1. Overview of organization of fishery, fishing practices and targeted species
  2. Local indicators of biodiversity
  3. Information on targeted and observed species, temporal trends (e.g. in species abundance), perceptions of environmental changes and local understandings of their causes
  4. Different values of species to local fishers
  5. Factsheet: Local fishers’ knowledge around AFADs in each of the three study areas.
